Roseville Drive in May, 2011

The Reeve of Hanover says the municipality will spend $90,000 to make major upgrades to Roseville Drive, north of Grunthal. The road there became a soggy mess in May due to extremely wet conditions.

Reeve Stan Toews says "we'll be digging out stretches on the north side as well as the south side for a total of about half a kilometre." He adds "the rest of the road will be reshaped and try to improve some of the drainage in there as well."  Reeve Toews says Hanover has "limited funds and so we're taking the worst stretches on both sides where it was the worst and dig those out at this time."

As for why this is a priority, Reeve Toews says it's "because we had to evacuate people there so it was that dramatic so we have to do something there so that they can have access in and out as well as emergency vehicles." Residents were getting stuck on a daily basis and a Voluntary Evacuation Order was imposed when it became evident the roads were so bad that emergency vehicles would likely get stuck if called upon.

Work is expected to begin shortly. In fact, Reeve Toews says "it's supposed to be done before fall but I don't know when it's slated to get a contractor in there." He notes the goal is certainly that next spring the roads won't be nearly as soft.
