The Rural Municipality of La Broquerie recently received $78,721 from the province through the Building Sustainable Communities Program.

Reeve Ivan Normandeau says it’s always nice to receive grants, and thanks the RM’s staff for their hard work to make sure they get grants.

"We have our staff work diligently at the grant process, and we're receiving some well-needed money.”

$31,221 is going to be allocated to the Active Transportation Network.

Normandeau says they will be putting the money into better signage for their trails.

He expects the signage to be upgraded by the middle of summer.

Then $16,000 will go into upgrading the community hall. He says it will mostly go toward “minor upgrades and touch ups” for the kitchen and the upstairs area.

And then the remaining $31,500 will go toward their Economic Growth Strategy.

“That's basically our economic development officer who looking into different strategies and different approaches how to have economic growth in the area."

He notes they could probably do these upgrades without the funding, but receiving these grants definetely helps speed up the process.

“It's always nice to use the provinces money and use a bit of our money. We are probably doing stuff quicker than what we probably would have done without the grant, so it just helps to speed up things.”

He is looking forward to getting these upgrades done.

“The trails will be look better and the hall will be touched up, so everything is just starting to get better.”
