Safety concerns at the intersection of Reimer Avenue and Elmdale Street came up Friday at the mayor's open door.

Mayor Chris Goertzen says at the moment, the corner of Reimer and Elmdale has a two-way stop with Reimer passing through and he adds it will probably stay that way for the time being.

"There was some discussion of whether that should be a four-way stop or not with a resident. At the same time council does monitor it but we want people to be patient. We do know that especially during times when there is a lot of traffic and people have to be patient but the reality is that will remain a two way stop unless we see otherwise in the future."

Another topic that came up is economic development. Goertzen notes as the city continues to grow, so do the opportunities for people to open businesses.

"There were some specific discussions with people who do want to see new businesses open and they also have opportunities where they are looking to find a space for their business so that's exciting. Obviously right now, Steinbach is growing and when you have growth and you have more people, you have more businesses so it's an exciting part of the growth in our city."

Goertzen says it can sometimes be challenging to find the appropriate space for a business whether retail or industrial but adds we have good developers here in Steinbach who act on that and ensure the right spaces are built.
