Steinbach's Remembrance Day service has a closed guest list, however, it will also be streamed on SteinbachOnline.com.

Bill Richards with the Steinbach Legion is one of the organizers. He says the service will be held at the Pat Porter Active Living Centre, and due to COVID-19 protocols, capacity is limited to around 100 people. In the past few weeks, Richards says he has been reserving spots for those that wish to be in attendance.

"I have had excellent responses from the public and others who wish to participate in the service, they have reached out to me via email and text. That has come together really well."

In the past, the Remembrance Day service in Steinbach often attracted as many as 500 people. He says even though this year’s event will be smaller, at least they can host a service.

"Last year, we had a very limited 15-minute service at the Cenotaph which was very nice but we are really excited to see a fuller service and we're looking forward to seeing some people we haven't seen in the last couple of years, especially our veteran families. This is the best we can do and we are excited."

Richards says the service itself will begin at 10:50 A.M. sharp and, as mentioned, will be live-streamed on SteinbachOnline.

"There is no singing allowed but we do have piper and she is going to be tremendous. She has been here before in years past, Heather Purvis and we will have a couple of local clergy members assisting us as well as the other member groups that will be participating in the wreath-laying."

A wreath has also been placed at the Cenotaph next to the Steinbach Post Office on the corner of Reimer Avenue and Main Street. Richards says people who want to meditate and place a poppy on that wreath are welcome to do so.

Finally, Richards thanks the community for their tremendous support of the Steinbach Legion's poppy campaign.

"The Mitchell Guides were out in full force on Saturday at Canadian Tire and Superstore and the returns were phenomenal. The public here very actively supports us. Our poppy returns so far have been exceptional and so we are very pleased about that and we really appreciated the support."
