A man wanted by Mounties after he allegedly caused "life-altering injuries" to a woman, has been taken into custody.

The Manitoba RCMP asked the public on Monday to be on the lookout for 39-year-old Wayne William Joseph Becks of Dauphin. They allege that Becks assaulted a woman on November 22.

The RCMP called her injuries "severe" as well as "life-altering."

He was facing numerous charges in relation to the assault, including aggravated assault, two counts of assault with a weapon, assault while choking, possession of a firearm while prohibited and uttering threats to cause death.

Becks' location was unknown on Monday afternoon when they sent out the alert. He is from Dauphin, Man., but police believed he was travelling to avoid arrest. Police warned that he likely had a firearm and was considered armed and dangerous.

Just a few hours after the alert the RCMP sent out a notification at 7:25 p.m. on Monday saying Becks had been taken into custody.

No further details were released on where he was taken into custody.

The Manitoba RCMP thanked the public for their help in locating the fugitive.

None of the allegations have been proven in court.
