It was a successful rescue mission, but there were additional injuries as RCMP worked to get an injured hiker off the Mantario Trail on Monday.
On September 18, at approximately 4:50 pm, Falcon Beach RCMP worked with Traffic Services in response to an SOS beacon from an injured hiker on the trail near Caribou Lake, in Whiteshell Provincial Park.
Three officers immediately responded and obtained the GPS coordinates from the SOS beacon.
RCMP report the terrain was difficult, so officers used ATV’s and a boat to get to the area, successfully locating the injured hiker who was brought to safety.
Two officers sustained minor injuries during the rescue.
The 59-year-old male hiker was checked by Emergency Medical Services and cleared.
