Although students have just started their summer holidays, the Steinbach Family Resource Centre is preparing for them to get back to school.

Jo-Anne Dalton, executive director, says the centre is holding a few fundraisers during the summer to support around 200 students with getting the supplies they need for fall.

“We’re holding a little raffle, so a 50/50, you can win up to $2500 based on sales and that's going to be drawn at the beginning of September,” she says. “We're also selling coffee. We know Stone City Coffee is a local roasted company with amazing coffee so we've partnered up with them.”

The centre will also put on weekly barbecues at various locations in Steinbach. They will take place every Friday and people can make extra donations specifically for the school supply drive.

Dalton says they are also collecting school supplies.

“Really good quality backpacks are a really big need,” she says. “We try and give those to kids at the beginning of middle school and at the beginning of high school. And if they're really good quality, they last them a couple of years instead of just the lower end ones that last six months before someone needs a new backpack. Scientific calculators are some of the more expensive items that we're always looking for, geometry sets, and two-inch binders seem to be hard to find and really expensive.”

Monetary donations can also be made at the Steinbach Family Resource Centre.
