Even though the risk is low, the Manitoba government is taking steps to be prepared in the event of an outbreak of avian influenza.  The province recently completed an assessment of how such an outbreak would affect our poultry and swine industries.  Agriculture Minister Rosann Wowchuck says being proactive will help ensure the industry's health.  The province has completed an assessment of how the swine and poultry industries would be affected in the event of a pandemic.  Wowchuck says it's the first of its kind in Canada, and they will  be sharing their findings with other provinces.  Wowchuck says the province has also been providing producers with information on the disease, and how to take steps to prevent an eventual pandemic.
