The Harper government is not reducing literacy funding.

Provencher MP Vic Toews says they are simply re-focusing their spending.  Last week we told you about one literacy organization which claims it will have to close its doors because of funding cuts.  Toews says what's happening is his government is spending less money on groups that only do studies and spending more money on organizations that do the training.  He says his government is investing $81 million over the next 2 years to go directly towards programs for adult learning and literacy skills.  Toews says all organizations that are currently receiving funding are encouraged to apply for future dollars.
