Much of the city went dark. There was a major electrical outage in Steinbach this morning. It started just before 9 a.m. and lasted between 5 minutes and half an hour. Manitoba Hydro Public Affairs Officer Glenn Schneider says the outage was caused by a breaker that tripped in one of the main stations in Steinbach. About 6,000 customers were affected. Schneider says they are currently investigating to determine why the breaker failed. He adds they don't believe it's related to the load growth in the southeast. Schneider says the utlity is well aware of the increased demand for electricity in this region due to the building boom. And he adds they've been adding capacity to the system to meet that demand.
