Our Member of Parliament for Provencher has introduced legislation to nab drug-impaired drivers.Justice Minister Vic Toews says it would provide police the tools and powers to conduct roadside tests.  If there's evidence of drug impairment, officers could request a fluid sample.  Failure to comply would be grounds for charges.  He notes these tests are based on those that have been used in the U.S. for years.  Furthermore, Toews says in cases where illegal drugs are found in a vehicle, the driver would lose their licence.  Meantime, Toews says the bill also closes some of the loopholes that have been used by some motorists to beat drunk driving charges.
