Forms for the Canadian Wheat Board's single desk plebiscite have arrived in most wheat and barley growers' mailboxes.

The plebiscite is simply another survey, according to the Western Barley Growers Association.

"Plebiscites are binding, and this has no binding ability on the minister on moving forward with removing the monopoly of the Canadian Wheat Board," says president Brian Otto. "We just consider it to be another survey."

"This is a quote from one of the producers that phoned me. I had never talked to this producer before. He said 'No farmer should ever have the right to tell another farmer how to market his grain.' That is the stand of the Western Barley Growers Association,' he says.

When asked how many members the WBGA has, Otto says their mailing list includes around 1,200 farmers.

Farmers who have not yet received a ballot must apply for a ballot by August 8 if they wish to vote.
