The Town of Niverville will be getting an RCMP detachment.

Mayor Myron Dyck says town council commissioned a police study in 2018 that revealed the best path forward for Niverville would be to continue working with the RCMP rather than setting up a municipal police force.

r to 18 months to see if it would even work to be retrofitted because obviously, they have certain security requirements and how that would work with our staff. We have been able to work through all of that to the point where we are at today where it has been acknowledged that the space will work for them and they are prepared to move members into that space. About 18 months from now, April 2023 it is expected to be open and operational."

At this point in time, Dyck says he isn’t sure what will all be included in this detachment, but he does know there will be dedicated officers stationed in Niverville.

"The St. Pierre Detachment has a full complement of members which I believe is 14. The members that will be in Niverville will still be under the staff sergeant out of St. Pierre but Niverville, with its population, they figure it will have three or four additional members. So if the full complement of members in St. Pierre was 14, it will now be 14 plus our three or four."
