Council for the RM of Hanover has approved funding for a number of road improvements in the municipality.

Reeve Stan Toews says earlier this year the province granted Hanover $203,717.55 through its Manitoba Provincial Road Repair Grant. The funding was for the repair of roads due to the severity of last winter. The province states that the funds need to be fully used prior to December 31st of this year. Any funds remaining will be required to be returned to the province.

Hanover Council decided that the funds would be used for the repair or construction of hard surface roads. As most of the hard surfaced roads in Hanover are located in the five communities of Blumenort, Mitchell, Grunthal, Kleefeld and New Bothwell, Council determined that these funds should be allocated mostly to those communities based on 2022 assessment.

There are nine projects receiving funding. They are:

  • Froese Road reconstruction - $36,707.22
  • Penner Drive S asphalt - $50,632.88
  • Asphalt repairs on George St., Fernwood Way, and Park Bay - $15,003.12
  • Deerpath Drive asphalt - $31,828.16
  • Willow St. curbing - $10,500.00
  • Peters Lane parking lane - $50,000.00
  • Center St. N culvert replacement - $622.86
  • Road 31E paving - $8,000.00
  • Road 32N pavement patching - $423.31

Toews notes this provincial funding is completely different from any funding that might be made available for spring flooding.
