Excitement over the new La Broquerie Splash Pad is showing no sign of slowing down.

Leisure Services Coordinator David Little says the facility was first turned on just over a month ago and has been buzzing with activity ever since.

“The response has been amazing, everything is running as it’s supposed to, and people are loving it!”

Little says the small community park has had much more draw than he ever expected, attracting people from as far away as Winnipeg. The splash pad is more than a tourist attraction though, and, at its very heart, Little says it is a community gathering place where people of all ages can talk, laugh, and get soaked.

“If I ever think that the paperwork is getting a little bit boring all I do is step outside my office and see the joy on those kids' faces and it makes everything worthwhile.”

In celebration of the new facility, the RM was initially hoping to hold a grand opening ceremony. However, Little says COVID-19 got in the way of that.

“Given everything that’s going on right now and the limitations on public gatherings, we think it probably makes the most sense to delay the event until everybody can get together again.”

Still, Little says there is no better time to introduce such an exciting piece of infrastructure than during a pandemic when everyone is stuck at home.

The splash pad first came into use mid-June.
