The idea is to make sure places like Ste. Anne and La Broquerie continue to flourish.
That has led to an annoucement this week by the Conservatives about plans to increase immigration to Francophone communities.  Provencher MP Vic Toews says in the past about 3.1 per cent of all immigrants were French speaking and the goal is to increase that to about 4.4 per cent by 2008.  Provencher has one of the largest Francophone populations in western Canada and Toews feels attracting more French speaking immigrants would be a great benefit to his area.  He thinks it will also help solve the shortage of skilled workers.
