Despite the rain on Sunday people flocked to Sandilands for the Mountain Cycling Association and Kids of Mud cup races.

The rain made it miserable for spectators and volunteers but not for the riders. Jackson Locken, one of the participates said the conditions were ideal. “It was great. It was sandy, it was muddy with a combination of clay. It was well built, the guys did a wonderful job. I can't imagine how many hours that went into it. For the first time out her it was great, really nice.”

Event host Jonathan Thompson spent hours upon hours getting the track ready. Thompson said it was great to see the good turnout. “It's nice to have people come out to ride a race rain or shine. I think this course rides better in the wet than in the dry.”

Many of the first time riders in Sandilands were amazed at the course and were all ready planning a return trip. Thompson was very happy to hear all the comments. “It' pretty rewarding, it's been a lot of work. But that's what it is all about. It all about coming out and celebrating the community of mountain biking and I'm glad we could put a course on for them."

There were 20 local riders out of the 170 who were involved. Ed Reimer finished 2nd in the Expert Men 4 Laps, Haley Warkentin finished 1st in the Expert Women 3 Laps, and Carson Thompson finished 1st in the Under 13 boys 2 lap modified.
