A man was rushed to hospital Thursday evening following a motorcycle accident in the Rural Municipality of Reynolds.

At approximately 6:45 pm, Falcon Lake RCMP received a report of a collision involving a motorcycle near Provincial Road (PR) 308.

The westbound lanes of the Trans Canada Highway were blocked at that time because of a wildfire. Vehicles were detoured down a country road from East Braintree to McMunn in order to allow firefighters the use of the highway to get the fire under control.

Police say a group of motorcycles detoured, missed the turn to McMunn and then headed further south on PR 308, eventually taking PR 503, which police say is a very sandy and washed out road in some places.

The westbound motorcycle caught a rut, flipping the bike and sending the driver off the machine. Police say the 63-year-old man from the RM of St. Clements received serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

STARS air ambulance was called to the scene. However, a spokesperson says the patient was transported by ground ambulance to Bethesda Regional Health Centre in Steinbach in stable condition.
