The Winnipeg Senior Baseball League's Mitchell Mariners put their 6 and 5 record on the line Thursday when they host Winnipeg South. The Chiefs are 5 and 7. The Mariners are coming off a 4-3 10 inning victory over the St.Boniface Trappers this past Tuesday.

The Winnipeg Goldeyes and Calgary Vipers split a doubleheader 
Wednesday night. Ryan Hamilton drove in the winning run as the Goldeyes took the opener 2-1. The Vipers scored two runs in the top of the 7th inning and won the second game of the twinbill 5-3. Winnipeg's record is 17 and 14. The Goldeyes trail first place Fargo-Moorhead by five games in the Northern Baseball League's West Division. Winnipeg and Calgary will wrap up their four game series Thursday at Can West Global Park.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers added punter Sam Paulescu to the football club's developmental squad. In 23 games at Oregon State Paulescu punted 128 times for 5,464 yards and a 42-yard average. That included 48 punts that were downed inside the 20-yard line. Another 25 of his punts resulted in either touchbacks or fair catches. Only 50 of Paulescu's punts were returned and he finished his career at Oregon State with a 38.7-yard net punting average. An All-Conference selection as a member of the Oregon Beavers, Paulescu was ranked among the top three punters at last April's NFL Combine.

The Hanover Kickers improved their record to 3 and 3 in the First Division of the Manitoba Major Soccer League with a 4-0 win over Scotia United. The Third Division's Hanover Strikers fell to 1 and 4 after a 3-2 loss to Saint James Missile.

The National Hockey League hands out its end of season awards Thursday in Vancouver. Calgary's Mikka Kiprusoff, San Jose's Joe Thornton, and Jaromir Jagr of the New York Rangers are the finalists for the Hart Trophy as the most valuable player.
