A man from Steinbach suffered minor injuries after driving into a train Thursday evening near La Broquerie.

The La Broquerie Fire Department was called to the crash at 6:50 pm. It happened at the crossing at Road 37 North and Provincial Road 210, between La Broquerie and Giroux.

"When you get those kinds of calls it always makes your heart stop a little bit," says Captain Miguel Dube. "Trains tend to not cause little damage when they impact things."

According to RCMP, the vehicle drove into a parked train. Dube says the car ended up hitting the second locomotive.

"I think the driver was fortunate," adds Dube. "He was transported to hospital as a precaution but he did have a few bumps and scrapes and cuts for sure."

Dube says the front end of the car was badly damaged, noting the airbags will have protected the 23-year-old driver. He notes the train suffered no damage.

The La Broquerie Fire Department was on scene for about an hour.

Dube adds he is not certain what led to the crash. CN Police are investigating.
