Marchand was hit by a heavy thunderstorm early Sunday evening. Wilf Chabot lives in the community and is a councillor for the RM of La Broquerie. He says the hail wasn't that big, but what surprised him was how long it lasted.

"I would say they were probably a little bit bigger than a pea but it lasted a good half hour and then it rained for another half hour. It was unbelievable."

Chabot estimates they got about two inches of rain. He says there was also a lot of wind and there are leaves on the ground everywhere. He adds, his brother was on the road, west of town, and reported major hail damage on the hood and trunk of his vehicle.

"He was just a little before Marchand here and he said his hood on his car and the trunk and everything was all full of dents. So the hail was probably bigger there. He said it was so bad that he had to stop and park on the side of the road until it stopped."

We have had one report from the Marchand area of hail as large as toonies.
