Manitoba's unemployment rate held steady at 5.3 per cent in April. Statistics Canada reports a slight drop in the number of jobs which was balanced by fewer people looking for work. The province's jobless rate is third lowest in Canada behind Alberta and Saskatchewan.

Nationally, the unemployment rate for april was up one-tenth of a point to 7.3 per cent even though 58,000 new jobs were created. That's because more people were looking for work.
