Manitoba Hydro says they are currently carrying out tree trimming and pruning on three priority power lines in Steinbach.

Bruce Owen from Manitoba Hydro says that two of the lines include a portion of work on Loewen Blvd.

He says they do this type of work because tree contact is one of the leading causes of outages in the province.

"All it takes is high winds or heavy snow to bring branches onto lines and cause a major outage. Any tree trimming done by Manitoba Hydro is carefully considered and follows best practices set by professionals in the industry."

Steinbach could see high winds this week, and with those branches out of the way, there is a lesser chance of power outages.

Owen notes that if a temporary outage is required, for example if a tree is too close to a power line, they will de-energize the line to allow crews to do the work quickly and safely.
