A new trail and park in La Broquerie were officially opened to the public on Wednesday afternoon.

David Little is the Leisure Service Coordinator for the RM of La Broquerie. He says this is something they have been working on for over a year and they held a grand opening on Wednesday to celebrate with the community and show off the Tetrault Trail and Park.

"The park itself has been well used by community members for a long time, it is sort of a hidden gem here in La Broquerie. Right now, we have added picnic tables and made it wheelchair accessible so people can come and use it. There are two different trailheads so if you want to take the full kilometre walk, you can do that, If you want to come in at the picnic area on the other side, you can do that as well."

Little says thanks to an Eco-Connections grant from CN Rail and Tree Canada, they were able to plant over 200 trees along the trail leading to the picnic area. He adds the new space is a big addition to the municipality.

"It runs along the golf course, a bridge crosses the river. Honestly, standing on the bridge, hearing the river go by is one of the most peaceful places you’ll find in La Broquerie, it is wonderful."

Laurent Tetrault spoke at the grand opening on behalf of his family. The Tetraults donated three acres of land to make the new park and trail possible.
