Organic milk production in our province is moving forward thanks to the new Mantoba Organic Milk Co-op.
Director Anne Appleby is a dairy producer near Steinbach. She says the 'MOM' Co-op is considering a partnership with another co-op from Ontario. The goal is to provide organic milk to local niche markets filling a growing demand for the product. In fact demand is so strong the co-op from Ontario can't keep up with consumption. Appleby notes federal grant money has already been secured since the Co-op started in September of 2006. And there are already a number of Manitoba producers working towards organic certification.
