By this time next month we should know what the future holds for the former Annie Loewen estate property along Old Tom Road.  Steinbach city council has granted unanimous approval to rezone the property from agricultural to residential.  Allan Hiebert owns the land and would like to subdivide the property into 16 large estate style lots.  However, neighbour Russ Fast opposes the plan saying the 12.3 acre yard should remain as is and be deemed a heritage site.  He says its park-like setting is unique and also questions whether that many new houses should be built so close to Old Tom Creek.
These comments and concerns were presented Monday morning at an intense municipal board hearing.  The board has promised to have an answer within 30 days.
