It appears 2 potentially destructive insects will not pose a problem for growers this year.  John Gavloski is an entomologist with Manitoba Agriculture.  He is surprised by how low flea beetle activity has been so far this growing season.  Gavloski feels, due to the low numbers, there will be little foliar spraying for the insect.  As for grasshoppers, the pest species is just beginning to hatch.  On a recent scouting trip he found a few of the pest species in ditches.  Gavloski notes it's difficult to predict what the overall population will be, but he does not anticipate high numbers.
