A man from Lorette has been charged with impaired driving, following a crash in Steinbach Thursday evening.

At approximately 8:40 pm, Steinbach RCMP were dispatched to the collision at the intersection of Brandt Street and Reimer Avenue. Police say the driver of a beige sedan struck a light standard, causing it to fall and crash onto another vehicle. The driver of the sedan then fled on foot.

Witnesses indicated to police which way the male had fled and officers were able to apprehend him a short time later.

The 27-year-old male from Lorette was arrested and charged for impaired driving after his blood-alcohol level was determined to be nearly four times the legal limit.

He was also charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, resisting arrest and mischief related to damaging property at the RCMP detachment. He also received numerous Highway Traffic Act Offence notices and his vehicle will be impounded for 180 days.
