Steinbach native Ian White has signed on with an affiliate of the Carolina Hurricanes.

The Norfolk Admirals Professional Hockey Club, an ECHL affiliate of the Hurricanes, announced on Monday that defenseman Ian White has signed a standard player contract.

White, 38, will join the Admirals after playing with the FPHL’s Motor City Rockets where he posted 19 points in 25 games.

After playing minor hockey in Steinbach, White played his junior hockey with the WHL’s Swift Current Broncos.

White began his professional career in 2004 when he played in eight games with the AHL’s St. John’s Maple Leafs. He would go on the play 78 games the next season with St. John’s posting 26 points which was second best amongst defensemen. The next season, he made his way to the National Hockey League where he joined the Toronto Maple Leafs.

He would spend the next eight seasons in the NHL with the Maple Leafs, Calgary Flames, Carolina Hurricanes, San Jose Sharks and Detroit Red Wings.

White returned to play on Steinbach ice in 2013 to briefly suit up for the Steinbach Huskies in a playoff series against the Red River Wild putting up 5 points in their first game.

Throughout his NHL career, White played a total of 503 games, scoring 45 goals and registering 134 assists along with a +46 rating.
