Some rapid test kits have arrived and been distributed in the Hanover School Division, and a request has gone out for more supplies.

During the winter break, the division received enough rapid tests that it could offer 5 tests for each student in kindergarten to Grade 6, if the families choose to use them.

If there are still families who want to pick up kits for their students, Amos says they are available at the schools.

rio as well,” she says.

Amos explains that staffing shortages are impacting many industries and employers across Manitoba, due to the omicron variant spreading rapidly among people of all ages. And the Hanover School Division should be prepared to encounter the same situation, says Amos.

Every school already works on their own internal contingency plans for when, where, and how to reassign employees, she says, adding that they are currently working on a divisional plan as well.

“There will be all hands on deck. Last resort, would be that we would have to shut down a class, or shut down a cohort, or shut down a school. We do not want to have to do that,” Amos says.

She assures that communication will continue between the division, schools, staff and parents to share details on plans to respond to whatever situations arise during this fourth wave of COVID-19.

Although things might appear to be a bit bleak as omicron continues to hammer the province, Amos maintains hope that a brighter tomorrow is just around the corner.
