Household Hazardous Waste Day
Household Hazardous Waste Day is an annual event, held at the Steinbach Fire Hall, 477 Main Street. This year, the HHWD will take place on Saturday, June 23, 2012 from 10 am to 2 pm. The City's Solid Waste Department, together with Miller Environmental and the Steinbach Fire Department, collect and sort hazardous materials for residents of Steinbach and the surrounding area. Storing hazardous items in your home can be a fire hazard and dangerous to your family. Also, it is unlawful to dispose of hazardous items at the Steinbach Landfill. Items collected include: Disinfectants, bleach, ammonia, abrasive powders, mildew & rust removers Kerosene, lighter fluid Paint, spray paint, lacquers, solvents, turpentine, epoxies, acrylics, wood preservatives, furniture polish / wax Hair dyes, hair sprays, medicine, polish remover All batteries Household cleaners: window, toilet, oven, drain, all-purpose, rug, upholstery, septic tank Mothballs, rodent poison, ant & wasp spray, insecticides, fertilizers, fungicides, herbicides Automotive: car batteries, waxes, polishes, antifreeze, gasoline, brake & transmission fluids If you have a question about HHWD or would like more information, please contact Eldon Wallman at 346-6532 or e-mail ewallman@steinbach.ca.
