A mobile home went up in flames overnight northeast of Steinbach.

Paul Wiebe says the Hanover Fire Department received the call at 12:30 am to a structure fire along Road 35E.

"When our crews arrived, they found a mobile home which was getting into the fully involved stage of the fire," explains Wiebe.

He notes a young family had been home when the fire broke out but managed to escape without injury.

"Our crews took on a defensive attack and knocked the fire down," he explains. "After which they were able to switch to a more offensive attack to enter the building and to fully extinguish the fire."

According to Wiebe, the Office of the Fire Commissioner is investigating the cause of the fire. A damage estimate has not been set.

Wiebe says the mobile home is a total loss, noting those structures are very difficult to save once they start burning.

The Hanover Fire Department cleared the scene at approximately 6:30 am.
