Grunthal high school seniors threw a fundraiser for their grad this past Saturday at Co-op in Grunthal. They ran a car wash, which went quite successfully as they raised $881.

Their goal was to raise $10,000 in total throughout all of their fundraising since that was how much the school could spend in the years prior. This previous fundraiser put them just over the goal at $10,615 raised.

The money raised is going toward the grad party, since graduates are in charge of covering the costs of their class celebration. The money raised will help them rent a DJ, photographer, decorations, buy food, and more. If they have enough money left over they also want to get gradbooks for the graduates, since the school doesn’t have yearbooks this year.

Some of the parents volunteered their backyard for the grad, so luckily the students won't have to worry about the additional cost of a venue. The students will also not be bringing dates or parents along in order to keep costs down.

The car wash was their final fundraiser of the year. The other three fundraisers were selling perogies which raised $3,352, selling pizza which raised $3,567, and selling grocery gift cards which raised $2,815.

Parent chaperone, Candice Bakx-Friesen, was glad the teens' final fundraiser was to wash cars. "For them to be able to be able to do something together and fundraise is really nice."

Throughout the pandemic, the school had held a grad parade so everyone could see the graduates celebrating and all dressed up. Bakx-Friesen explains that the grad parade will be happening this year as well due to the positive reaction.“It was a hit, so it's nice to see that sometimes when you change things up, it actually is a really good change.”
