A golf fundraiser is coming up on September 15th in support of Kelly Wiens who continues to battle cancer.

A group helped organize the event and Louis Cote says many people have gotten involved because Kelly is such a great person. "It shows the kind of person Kelly is. We've only had things open for a week and a half, yet we have 36 hole sponsors and 30 teams entered in the tournament."

Cote says the family has been blown away by the generosity and support from across Southeastern Manitoba. "They are very excited about it. They have been doing a lot of support from within the family to help out. It's been a two-year process for Kelly who's had to miss work. Plus the cost included in the treatments he's been taking. It's been wearing on people so they were really happy we could help out."

In another showing of how the surrounding communities come together, Cote says they have teams entered from all over. "As I'm seeing the entries for the golf tournament, we have Kleefeld, Steinbach, Mitchell, La Broquerie, and all these towns around coming together to help a person. It says a lot about the kind of person Kelly is. He's spent much time helping out with minor sports. Even when he was going through chemo treatments, he was coaching two baseball teams. It says a lot about him and a lot about the community."

There's still room for teams to play in the fundraiser by going to Kelly Wiens - Fundraising Golf Tournament (infinitead.me)
