One week ago a large forest fire began near the community of Badger.

Spokesperson Earl Simmons from Manitoba Sustainable Development says the fire is now 90% contained and they've been able to reduce their crew to less than 50 people and two helicopters.

"We didn't require any assistance from the water bombers for almost a week now and the fire is, as I said, 90% contained. The incident commander is feeling very confident that the fire is well contained and they're working towards the middle to put out the entire fire."

Simmons says the investigation into the cause of the fire started one week ago when it first went up in flames and has been ruled a human-caused fire due to the the fact that there was no lightning in the area. He adds the specifics into how the fire began will take at least a couple more weeks to determine.
