More than two dozen homes in the Rural Municipality of Montcalm are now under an evacuation order, as the result of rising flood waters.

As of Monday afternoon, the order is for 27 homes, impacting 69 people. More are expected in the coming days. Evacuees are headed to Steinbach, Winkler and Winnipeg.

Officials say the road closure list is changing by the hour, noting most dirt roads are impassable and travel is not recommended. The road closure list can be found here.

The municipality is bracing for 2009 flood levels or higher, and the north entrance to St. Jean could close in the coming days.

Staff are working in shifts around the clock to monitor the situation, and members of local volunteer fire departments are being asked to help with dike checks.

As well, more sandbags and sand are being brought in and are available at the shop at the self-serve filling station.
