Provincial fire crews are en route to a wildfire burning southeast of Richer.

Fire crews from Richer and Ste. Anne were dispatched to a region of bush and swampland near Fire Road 13 at around 3:00 PM this afternoon and have been battling the blaze ever since.

“We’ve knocked it down quite a bit,” comments, Ste. Anne Fire Chief John Desrochers from on scene, “but we are really hoping for some snow tonight.”

Strong winds and unseasonably dry conditions make for difficult firefighting circumstances, and Desrochers says the flurries forecasted in the coming hours would help put the fire out and ensure that it stays out.

The Chief adds no homes are presently in any danger, but Manitoba Conservation and Climate Wildfire Service will be dropping by shortly to offer their assistance as members work to extinguish the situation.
