Thundershowers dumped large amounts of rain in some parts of the Southeast over the weekend...

... but the province's Fire Program Manager says it did little to help the forest fire situation.

The forest fire situation in our province remained fairly stable over the weekend.  Tom Mirus is the Fire Program Manager for the province.  He says eight new fires started over the weekend - all of them in the Eastern part of the province.  There have been 463 fires to date of which 22 are still burning.  Mirus notes the spotty thundershowers that moved through the southern part of the province sunday night were not widespread enough to help the firefighters.  He says the forest travel restrictions remain in effect.
