Driving through downtown Steinbach will be a little tricky this weekend, thanks to the annual Summer In The City festival.

Randy Reimer, Head of Public Works for Steinbach says a number of street closures will be in effect. The first of those closures happened Thursday morning at seven o'clock when Reimer Avenue was closed from First Street to Main Street and then from Main Street to Elmdale Street. This is to accommodate setup of the midway.

The next closure will happen on Thursday at 6 pm when Main Street will be closed from Friesen Avenue to Barkman Avenue. This is to allow vendors to set up and begin preparing for the start of the festival on Friday.

Then, Friday morning, Lumber Avenue will be closed from Main Street to Elmdale Street for the Steinbach Credit Union pancake breakfast.

On Saturday, from noon to 9 pm, Lumber Avenue will be closed from Main Street to First Street.

Also, on Saturday, from 3 pm to 9 pm, Main Street west will be closed from Friesen Avenue to Highway 12 for the Show and Shine.

According to Reimer, the last of the closures will be lifted on Sunday at 11:59 pm, when Main Street is reopened.

Reimer says during the Main Street closure, if you are wanting to head down Highway 52 towards La Broquerie, your best option is to take Highway 12 to McKenzie Avenue and then turn east until you reach the 52.

For those wanting to park downtown this weekend, Reimer says there are several parking lots to choose from. He says there is also the option of using side streets or residential streets. Some parking will also be allowed on portions of Main Street. Motorists are reminded to pay attention to signage indicating hourly restrictions in some areas.
