Lawyers representing the federal government and the Friends of the Canadian Wheat Board have agreed on a hearing date.

FCWB is taking Ottawa to court for its plans to eliminate the Canadian Wheat Board's single desk without conducting a producer plebiscite, which they argue is required under the CWB Act.

"We agreed on December 6th as the date for the hearing. It will be held in Edmonton because that's where a courtroom and judge are available that day," says Friends legal counsel Anders Bruun. "There is some possibility it could be moved to Winnipeg if a case here cancels out."

The hearing will result in a ruling from a federal court judge.

"We will get a decision, perhaps not immediately as it may be adjourned for the judge to give consideration to the matter, and he may issue his decision at a later date."
