The Canadian Egg Marketing Agency has completed its latest cost of production survey.  Conducted every 5 years, the survey measures the average cost of producing a dozen eggs nationally.  It also helps determine what producers are paid for production over the next several years.  Fred Krahn chaired the survey committee.  He says since the last survey in 1999, productivity and efficiency have increased.  Rate of lay increased 2.4% to nearly 25 dozen per hen housed, feed requirements to produce a dozen eggs dropped 4.8%, and labour hours per dozen decreased nearly 18%.  Overall, the cost to produce a dozen eggs has dropped about 11 cents since 1999.
