Construction on Park Road West will resume this week.

The road has been closed between the west entrance to E.G. Penner Building Centre and Industrial Road since early September 2022. It is being twinned and paved to service the new Langill Farm Development.

Roadwork was put on hold for winter back in late November.

City of Steinbach Engineer Aaron Rach says the current project is being done by the Langill Farm developer and their portion of the project ends just west of the old campground. He notes their work began last year and they now need to complete the paving.

Rach says the city also has some work to do.

“The city is undertaking a further extension of Park Road West. We are going to be taking it to just west of the Industrial Road intersection so that will continue that four-lane cross section and then transitioning back to the gravel road.”

In March, Steinbach City Council awarded a tender for this roadwork to Friesen Hauling Ltd for just under $2M.

Rach notes “That project is going to be happening this summer and is expected to be completed by the end of August or the beginning of September so Park Road West will be fully reopened at that time.”

Though this has been a long process, Rach says it will be very nice to have Park Road West twinned and paved all the way from Highway 12 to just west of Industrial Road.
