Communities that provide help to stranded motorists will now get some compensation from the province.
Communities will now be able to apply for disaster financial assistance to offset costs when providing accommodations for motorists caught in snowstorms.  Emerson Mayor Wayne Arseny calls that welcome news.  He says its an issue the town has lobbied the government on for quite a few years.  Communities that help stranded motorists usually have to open up the local community centre and provide food, blankets and other services.  Arseny says he's pleased the province has finally recognized its responsibility in these situations.
