Niverville's Matt Falk has just released a brand-new comedy album affectionately named “Optimistical”.

There was a brief period of time last summer when Rumor's Comedy Club was allowed to open at 50% capacity. Falk says he was scheduled to headline the club for a few nights so he jumped on the opportunity, hired sound engineer Allen Penner, and recorded an album.

Falk says preparing a new performance in the middle of a pandemic did come with some interesting challenges for him and his wife, who doubles as his writing partner.

"We had to write a ton of new material that we couldn't really test in front of an audience. It was a really unique writing experience. Just picture me, in my living room, holding a hairbrush, telling these jokes to my wife and we are editing them and we think this is funny but I don't know if other humans are going to find this funny. It was completely unique but I couldn't be more thrilled with the turnout."

Listen to the whole conversation with Matt Falk:

Falk says it was nice to have a project like “Optimistical” to keep him busy during this extended period of lockdown. Now, he’s just ready to hear what people think of it.

"The thing I am most excited about this is that I would often get people telling me, 'hey you should be more vulnerable on stage, you should open up a little bit more.' That was always a difficult thing for me so this album is my attempt at doing that. It is my attempt at being a little bit more honest, I get a little bit more real. If you are a fan of my comedy, you are going to hear the things that you enjoy and the style that you already like but hopefully you will hear something a little bit different that I haven't been brave enough to try before."

“Optimistical” is available pretty well anywhere music can be purchased or streamed.
