Honesty, respect and empathy.  Those are the top 3 character traits identified in a character education study in the Seine River School Division.  Kathy Lautens was hired to review the program and look for ways to improve it.  She says the board needs to continue to provide resources to its schools and partner with parents to impart these values to the children.  Lautens adds Seine River is a leader among school divisions in the province and is on the right track with its character education approach.  Superintendent Roy Seidler says it was gratifying to see the division is staying true to values that are part of the mission statement it developed 4 years ago.  In an effort to strengthen the program the board has set aside some money for schools to develop character education programs.
