The South East SnoRiders are holding their 10th annual Vintage Sled, Show, Shine & Ride this weekend.

On Saturday morning, people can bring their snowmobiles to the Woodridge Community Centre.

Dave Boutang of the South East SnoRiders says they clean the baseball diamond and the field so there is room to park, and they have a 20-mile non-designated groomed trail.

“That's important because a designated trail, you require a snow pass. And a non-designated trail, you don't require a snow pass,” he says. “So we make a trail for these vintage sleds to ride on to go to the Sandilands Park.”

The Woodridge Community Center puts on a pancake breakfast in the morning, so you can eat pancakes during registration.

Registration is from 8:30am-10:30am, and you can register your snowmobile in one of five classes.

The five classes are Best Ski-Doo, Best Arctic Cat, Best Polaris, Best Yamaha, and then Best of the Rest.

The trophies that will be handed out this weekend.

As this is a vintage event, the snowmobile has to be 25 years or older, so that means the snowmobile has to be a 1998 or older to win.

“Now we don't discourage anybody from coming. If you have a new snowmobile, you wanna come, we'll gladly accept you,” he says. “The only thing is, you won't be eligible for the judging of the trophies.”

By 11:00am the judging should be finished and then the trophies will be presented.

Around 11:30am is when the snowmobile ride to Sandilands begins.

At Sandilands they will be serving hot dogs off the BBQ, drinks, and cookies which is what the registration fee is for. They’ll also have a bonfire.

If you don’t have a snowmobile, you can still pay a registration and drive by car to Sandilands Park.

"You can park on the street there and walk in and the walk is probably maybe 200 yards at most.”

The last time they held this event, they had over 80 registered vintage snowmobiles.

"And it's getting better every year. There's more and more people.”

All the funds that are raised for this event will go to the Never Alone Cancer Foundation.

The Never Alone Cancer Foundation helps those battling cancer by ensuring they don’t have to fight alone.

If you have cancer and need someone to talk with or come visit you, the Never Alone Cancer Foundation will help set that up.

"We've had occasions where people at the Never Alone Foundation have gone out within two days or a day of people calling and saying they need help. We believe that the Never Alone Cancer Foundation is just an amazing organization.”

About 12 years ago when the event first started, they decided they wanted to do something to give back to the community.

“Just about every family that I know has had somebody affected by cancer, so that's why we give to the Never Alone Cancer Foundation.”

Boutang is looking forward to the event, and is hoping for a big crowd.

"The weather is supposed to be really good, like only minus 3 for that day, so you can stand around and spend more time looking at these old vintage snowmobiles.”

The South East SnoRiders Vintage Sled, Show, Shine & Ride is on Saturday, March 4, at the Woodridge Community Center. The entry fee is $10 and includes lunch.
