The Winnipeg Blue Bombers two-game losing streak came to an end Sunday afternoon in Montreal. Buck Pierce threw two touchdown passes including a 39-yarder to Terrence Edwards on the final play of the third quarter as Winnipeg edged the Alouettes 25-23.
The Bombers hit pay dirt on their first possession. From the shadow of their own goal post, Cory Watson turned a five yard reception into a 92 yard gain down to the Montreal nine yard line. Two plays later Pierce found Greg Carr in the Alouettes endzone. Fred Reid then went untouched 47 yards for another touchdown late in the first quarter which gave the Blue Bombers a 14-0 lead. Montreal rallied late in the game thanks to 11-play 85-yard drive capped by an 11-yard touchdown pass from Anthony Calvillo to Jamel Richardson. The two-point convert failed and Winnipeg held on for the 25-23 victory.
The Blue Bombers lead the CFL East Division at 8-3. The Alouettes are next at 6-5 while the Hamilton Tiger-Cats hold down third place at 5-6. Winnipeg's next game is Saturday, September 24th in Toronto against the last place (2-9) Argonauts.
