Tyler Prentice scored with 1:22 left in the third period to lift the Beausejour Blades past the Winnipeg South Blues 4-3. Brad Mailman, Ashton Reinboldt and Jeff Sonnenberg also scored for the Blades who won for just the fifth time this season. Former Eastman Selects netminder Mitch David stopped 25 shots in net for the Blues. The Manitoba Junior Hockey League's Sher-Wood Division leading Portage Terriers edged the Dauphin Kings 4-3 as Darren Miller scored at 3:33 of overtime.


Team West will meet Team Ontario today in the semi-final of the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in London, Ontario. Garrett Mitchell of Regina scored twice as Team West beat Russia 4-1. Jimmy Bubnick of Saskatoon and Winnipeg's Scott Glennie also scored for Team West while Mathew Krahn of Winnipeg stopped 29 shots. Team West finished the round-robin with three wins and one lose. Team Pacific will take on the United States in today's other semi-final.


Canada will meet the United States in Friday's semi-final at the World Junior Hockey Championship in Pardubice, Czech Republic. Steve Stamkos, Brad Marchand and Stefan Legein scored third period goals as Canada beat Finland 4-2 in the quarter-finals. John Tavares also scored for the Canadians. Russia downed the Czech Republic 4-1 and will face Sweden in the other semi-final.


Canada's National Women's Under-22 Hockey Team, which includes defencemen Jocelyne Larocque of Ste.Anne and Melanie Gagnon of St.Adolphe along with forward Laura Fridfinnson of Arborg, will meet Russia today in the opening game of the 2008 European Air Canada Cup in Ravensburg, Germany. Canada has won the European Air Canada Cup five straight years.


Joe Caligiuri stopped 15 shots as the Brandon Wheat Kings wrapped up their three-game Alberta road trip with a 2-0 victory over the Red Deer Rebels. Sanfred King and Matt Lowry did the goal scoring for the Wheat Kings who are tied with Regina for first place in the Western Hockey League's East Division. Brandon does have four games in hand on the Pats.


Alyssa Vandepoele of Ste.Anne will meet Sheyna Andries of the Assiniboine Memorial Curling Club in Winnipeg in her opening game of the Provincial Junior Women's Championship in Stonewall. The Provincial Junior Men's Championship is at the West Kildonan Curling Club in Winnipeg. Travis Bale of Springfield, who is the number one seed, will meet Cal Rutter of Miami.
