Artists from southeastern Manitoba fared well at the 43rd annual GMA Covenant Awards.
This year's GMA (Gospel Music Association) Covenant Awards took place on Friday, November 17th, and Saturday, November 18th at Bethany Church in Kitchener, Ontario. The two-day event put on by GMA Canada included award presentations, showcase performances, and networking and workshop opportunities for artists.
For the second year in a row, Jordan St. Cyr, who’s originally from Niverville and is now living in Nashville, Tennessee, cleaned house. St. Cyr took home five awards, including Adult Contemporary Artist of the Year and Pop Song of the Year for 'Rescue.'
As we head toward Christmas, St. Cyr also won Seasonal Song of the Year for his single ‘The Wait is Over’.
Back in 2022, St. Cyr won six awards, more than any other artist at the GMA Covenant Awards. He won Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, and Male Vocalist of the Year.
Meanwhile, Mike Janzen, formerly from Steinbach and now living in Toronto, received Folk Song of the Year this past weekend for his song “The Great Congregation”.
In his post on Instagram, Janzen says “It was a fun night to hear some great music and connect with artists”.
