We certainly have a really good amount of snow for ski trails in the southeast and it looks like the weather will allow trails to stick around for a while longer.

Brent Manke is part of the Jack rabbits ski lessons program through Sandilands Ski Club.

He says December had them questioning whether there would be enough snow this year to groom the trails.

“This has been great, with so much snow,” Manke says, hoping the trails will last into spring.

When they first took up the sport, Manke says it seemed like many other people had the same idea and that made it a challenge to get each family member outfitted with the right size skiis and poles.

Now that they all have the necessary equipment, he says it’s a great way to spend a winter afternoon, getting fresh air along with some physical activity while enjoying beautiful scenery.

The Jack Rabbits will host a workshop later this month at Quarry Oaks for anyone who wants to learn some tips on the sport of cross-country skiing.

Manke says it’s a great way for people of all ages to learn the basic skills.

The Sandilands Ski Club was founded in the spring of 1992 as a non-profit organization, dedicated to promoting cross country skiing.
